Cruising 30 April 2009

Another beautiful day at sea.  It is beautiful even though it was not sunny most of the day.  In the captains report there are swells to 10 feet but we feel very little on this ship.

Deb asked if we heard about the Swine flu, indeed we have on CNN radio (can't get the TV version in the mid Atlantic and haven't checked on that today).  Then tonight we had a couple flyers along with the Cruise Compass that tell us about the precautions, indications, and all we ever wanted to know about the Swine flu.  Of note, RCI has suspended all ports of call in Mexico.  We shall see what the future brings.  I hope having our flu shot this year might help???  On board they have dragged out the hand sanitizer and say they are wiping down all areas with disinfectant more frequently than usual.  My eyes have been itching since more disinfectant has been uses and I have a stuff nose.  Two days ago I twisted my shoulder the "wrong" way and it has been hurting, plus I cannot raise my arm. I hope this is better soon.  John's knee is fine.  I don't want this to sound like a medical report of complaints but would appreciate your prayers as we start the "strenuous" part of our trip in three days. As a matter of fact John's knee felt so well he tackled the rock wall today.  We did a lot of walking and more flights of stairs than I can recall to count.  We love the cruise but we are eager to get to our Rick Steves tour!

We might have mentioned before that the ship is going to dry dock in Germany at the end of this cruise.  Some workers will board in Southampton to begin work at that time.  I mention this because they have building supplies and other things covering the basketball court on deck 13.  This would be a great disappointment to someone like Steven if this were to happen on a cruise he was on.  I doubt anyone on this cruise would notice!  I would say at least 3/4 on board are of the senior set!

Temperature: 52* mid morning, 57.2 now at 10 pm-as the captain says one does not go to Ireland for a "beach" vacation.

Nautical miles from Galveston 4808, 978 from Ponta Delgada, and too Cohb (Cork) 170.

Cork tomorrow!  Ireland or bust!!!  This photo is a view toward Cork from the Heli Pad on the ship, deck 5.
